AI for Better Laws, Not Lawmaking
One of the most valuable uses of AI in governance is not to make laws, but to improve them.
Over decades, legal systems accumulate overlapping, contradictory, obsolete, and redundant laws. AI can systematically review the entire legal framework, identify such anomalies, and recommend areas for simplification and consolidation—something that would take human experts years to accomplish.
The final decision to amend or repeal any law must always remain with legislators, while interpretation continues to rest with the judiciary. AI’s role is to assist, not replace, human judgment.
A simpler and more coherent legal framework would reduce litigation, ease the burden on judges and lawyers, lower compliance costs for citizens and businesses, and make governance more efficient.
If AI can help make our laws clearer and fewer, it may prove to be one of the most transformative reforms in public administration.
