Unemployment and Society

There was a time when humans had no “career choices.”
They shaped stones into tools, discovered fire, and learned to cultivate land—not for comfort, but for survival. Progress was not a preference; it was a compulsion.

Today, we live in a far more evolved world. Stability exists. Salaried employment offers dignity and security. Naturally, many choose it—and there is nothing inherently wrong in that.

But a question remains:

If everyone seeks comfort, who will create the next layer of opportunity?

Those who step out—who build, experiment, and struggle—often do more than shape their own future. They create livelihoods for many who may not have had the same education or exposure.

Yet, the burden of this risk is borne disproportionately by a few.

This is where society must evolve in thinking.

Supporting those who take risks—whether through policy, encouragement, or even a basic unemployment safety net—should not be seen as charity. It is a form of collective investment. After all, stability enjoyed by many is, in part, built on the struggles of some.

The choice, therefore, is not between job and struggle.

It is between:
Living only for personal security, or
Contributing, in whatever way possible, to expanding opportunities for others.

A society progresses not when everyone struggles,
but when enough people care to ensure that fewer are left behind.
