Why does a temporary gas shortage trigger such disproportionate outrage?
India has faced far bigger constraints in the past—and adapted with dignity. For decades, a large part of the country cooked without LPG. Traditional fuels were not a choice, but a way of life. Society functioned, families thrived, and resilience was never in short supply.
Widespread access to LPG itself is a relatively recent achievement, accelerated only after initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. That context matters.
Yes, clean fuel is essential. Yes, shortages must be addressed swiftly. But does a temporary disruption justify panic—or political noise that ignores history?
What is more concerning is the selective memory in public discourse. Those who presided over decades when millions lacked access to clean cooking fuel now express extreme alarm over short-term inconvenience.
A responsible response would be: • Acknowledge the progress made
- Encourage temporary adaptation where needed
- Focus on solutions, not amplification
India’s strength has always been its ability to adjust without losing balance. A short-term shortage should test our resilience—not our patience.
Let’s keep perspective.
